The Kawasaki Versys is a motorcycle of the Kawasaki brand, produced since 2006. It derives its name from the contraction of the phrase "VERsatil SYStem", precisely to indicate the versatility of use both on the road and on dirt roads. The design of the first series is the result of the pencil of Shunji Tanaka, father of the revolutionary Mazda MX 5.
Based on the design of the Kawasaki ER-6, it has a water-cooled 650 cm³ 4-stroke parallel twin engine that has been revised to provide greater torque at low and mid-range, paying for a reduction in the maximum power value. In fact, it develops a power of 47 Kw / 64 HP at 8,000 rpm, which is 6 kW / 8 HP less than the ER-6 engine.
On the market it mainly compares with the models presented by other Japanese motorcycle manufacturers such as the Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom, the Honda Transalp and the Yamaha Tracer 700.
